VELCOM Launches Solar Plant In Belarus

29.04.2016

The Solar Power Plant will start working this summer in the Gomel region, close to Bragin. It will include 85,000 solar panels that occupy the territory as large as 80 football fields. To link together all solar modules, VELCOM will lay 800 km of cable lines. Power Plant capacity will be 22.3 MW which is a record figure for the Belarusian solar installations. This, for example, is sufficient to provide the operation of entire evening illumination in Minsk. In addition to the solar park itself, mobile operator invests in the construction of high voltage transmission line with 23 towers and 110 kV transformer.

VELCOM got interested in the market of “green” energy aiming to diversify its business. The company consider south of Belarus to be a promising direction, as 1,900 hours of sunshine per year – is only 10% less than, say, in Sochi.

Construction of the Solar Power Plant will cost VELCOM more than 23 million euro. By preliminary estimations, the payback period will be around 4-5 years. According to CEO Helmut Dusan, the project “creates new jobs and helps to revive the areas affected by the Chernobyl Disaster.”

ENERGOPROMIS Ltd. will also participate in the construction of the “object to develop electric power on the basis of natural solar radiation” acting as a supplier of high-voltage circuit breakers, disconnectors, current transformers, surge arresters, protection & automation products and systems, DC panels and panels of own needs. We are proud to cooperate with VELCOME in the framework of such a large-scale “green” project in our country!
